Keith Krate
July 15, 1971 – September 21, 2002.

They say that music is the window to your soul. If that’s the case then Keith Krate was the greatest window washer i have ever known.

Keith, more than any other person, opened my eyes and ears to new (and new to me) music. He had the same level of excitement for a lo-fi indie rock 7″ as he did for old favorites from KISS or the rarest variant slab of vinyl from Coil. He showed me that liking industrial and indie rock weren’t mutually exclusive… neither was liking synth pop and death metal. Keith was the person who showed me that “you got chocolate in my peanut butter / you got peanut butter in my chocolate” could be and usually was a good thing.

I owe more to the influence of Keith Krate than to any other person and i miss him dearly. This podcast is a tribute to Keith and his ability to inspire people through music.

Keith died in September of 2002, but he didn’t leave unnoticed or unloved.

These inaugural podcasts are being launched on what would have been Keith’s 37th birthday. July 15, 2008.

This mix is a crash course for those who weren’t fortunate enough to know keith during this period. It’s a much more diverse collection of tracks and was culled from his demos from 1991-1994 or so. A taste of what could have been.
